Grammy Foundation/MusiCares Foundation Fundraising Auctions - Help Musicians in need while expanding your collections!

With music education facing serious cutbacks in government funding, and with cities in the South still recovering from the devastation of last year's Hurricanes, isn't is time to start thinking about how YOU can support the Recording Academy's various charitable efforts - most notably those of the Grammy Foundation and MusiCares. One way I've always found to be particularly enjoyable was to participate in their fund-raising auctions, and by the looks of what has been donated, this year's ongoing offerings are no exception, with many great one-of-a-kind items to bid on.
Recently, our gallery was asked to help with the Philadelphia chapter of the Recording Academy's "Recording Academy Honors" and the silent auction that was done at the same time. Proceeds from that auction were put to work immediately, supporting their educational programming and music advocacy programs. Artists George DuBose, Howie Green and Elliott Landy each generously donated a work of art, with their efforts raising nearly $1000.00!
Anyway, keep checking back here for more information, as they run regular auctions on eBay throughout the year and feature an impressive list of donated items for you to bid on and own. I think that anything you can do to both improve your collection and benefit music programs is an investment worth making, don't you?

On December 6, 1965, Mickey Ruskin opened the doors of the legendary restaurant/bar/club, Max's Kansas City, formerly located at 213 Park Avenue South. He provided a home away from home for everybody who was anybody- and even some nobodies. The cocktail hour free food that Mickey put out every day kept the downtown art scene alive and vital; for some, it was their meal of the day.
The Max’s Kansas City Project is a 501C3 non profit organization established in Mickey’s memory. To honor the spirit inherent in his philosophy of helping artists in need we provide Emergency Funding and Resources to artists in crisis. Supported entirely by volunteers, through our fundraising efforts, we have awarded 21 grants. Grants help pay rent, food and medical bills. We hope to award double that number in 2006, but can only do so with your support.
We also plan to broaden our scope of programs by launching Damage Control, an alcohol and drug prevention program for teens. Damage Control is an online cyber-mentoring program designed to educate and counsel teens on the dangers and possible consequences of substance abuse and addiction.
We hope you will all participate in this fundraising effort. While the party and auction are over, tax-deductible donations to our efforts are still appreciated.
