Lynyrd Skynyrd’s 1976 release Gimme Back My Bullets finds the original line-up beginning to transition, replacing producer Al Kooper with the talented Tom Dowd, trimming its 3-guitar front line to two with the departure of Ed King, and debuting their all-girl back-up vocalists, the Honkettes.
While it didn’t contain any breakout hits, it did introduce a number of tunes that have become standards and popular concert tunes, including, “Double Trouble”, “Searchin’”, “Roll Gypsy Roll” (a tune about the touring life), the title track (and WWE favorite), and a funky cover of J.J. Cale’s “Same Old Blues”.
