Working with Carlos Santana in 1994 to honor both his mentor (Bill G.) and the 25th anniversary of his debut at Woodstock, the publishing team arrived at an ingenious solution to produce this psychedelic vision of Carlos on stage at Woodstock in 1969.
They searched for months for an image that would honor Carlos and Bill, finally deciding to combine two photographs taken by Bill Graham and Baron Wolman. Baron Wolman was the chief photographer for Rolling Stone Magazine, covering all the festivals in 1969. He was sitting on stage with Bill Graham when they both decided to photograph each other. The two photos were combined, with Baron and the rest of the band removed. Carlos supervised the entire printing process, adding the psychedelic colors of the crowd and stage to the black and white photograph.
Carlos felt it was important to create the image in two formats - a limited-edition, signed litho-serigraph and a limited-edition unsigned poster. He wanted all of his fans to be able to collect this art regardless of the price. Santana and Wolman both have signed the litho-serigraph, and Bill Graham's signature was silk-screened on the art.
1969's Woodstock festival introduced Santana and his band to a world-wide audience, highlighted by an awesome performance of "Soul Sacrifice".
