The Beatles had all of Japan abuzz when they played at the Budokan Palace, since prior to their performances, this hall and memorial to Japan's war dead had hosted only martial arts competition. Protesters outside loudly displayed their displeasure at this event.

The set list for these shows typically included 10-11 songs, including "Rock and Roll Music", "Baby’s in Black", "Day Tripper", "Paperback Writer", "Nowhere Man" and others. The shows were opened by Peter & Gordon ("A World Without Love") and Cliff Bennett & The Rebel Rousers (who were also managed by Brian Epstein and had a nice run with their version of Paul M's "Got To Get You Into My Life").

After leaving Japan, the Beatles headed to the Phillipines for a July 4th event and into their confrontation with the Marcos regime, who were pretty mad when the band snubbed their invitation for a breakfast with Imelda. Not only was their police protection removed, but they were kept on their plane out of the country until Brian Epstein returned all of the money the band had earned for playing there…!!
