Sex Pistols "Pretty Vacant - Pink/Orange" Ltd. Edition S/N Print
Sex Pistols "Pretty Vacant - Pink/Orange" Ltd. Edition S/N Print
In Stock (1)

Limited-edition (200) screenprint using pink and orange inks on a white background, printed on heavy paper stock, measuring 39.5”w x 28.5”h overall. Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist, Jamie Reid, from the 1997 edition published with the Artificial Gallery in New York. Printed by Ambassador, NYC. Licensed by Polygram Merchandising (stamped on back).

The "Nowhere Buses" were first done by Jamie for the cover of a magazine put out by Point Blank, a San Francisco-based Situationist group. They also appeared inside as the 'alienation' and 'boredom' buses.

They next appeared as a poster in Mr. Reid’s “Suburban Press” poster book in 1975, still titled “Nowhere buses”, and then a negative of the image was used on the back cover of the “Pretty Vacant” single in the U.K., titled this time as the 'Nowhere/Boredom' buses. They were also used in the UK for the promo poster for the release of “Pretty Vacant”.

"Pretty Vacant" was the third single released by the Sex Pistols. It was released on July 2, 1977 and rose to #6 on the UK Singles charts (only breaking in to the Top 100 in the U.S., but it was their only single to chart in the U.S.). In spite of the bands propensity to put a strong accent on the second syllable of “Vacant”, it cleared the censors (the band played it during their only appearance on “Top of the Pops”) since they thought that they were simply hearing Rotten’s brogue.

The B-side is a lengthy cover of The Stooges' "No Fun", which was also their farewell song during their final tour of the U.S..

These prints were produced by Jamie Reid and Artifical in 1997 for Reid's "Peace is Tough" exhibition marking the “20th Anniversary of the birth of Punk Rock”, where new color combinations were introduced (or, as it was described in the original catalog that accompanied the exhibition “…reworked, updated impression(s) that stay true to the original aesthetic.”).
