Full title disclosure - The Cure – Join The Dots: B-Sides and Rarities, 1978-2001 (The Fiction Years) – A January, 2004 release on Fiction Records (Distributed by Elektra/Asylum Records).
After leaving Fiction, the label that The Cure was on for over 20 years, Robert Smith thought it wise to reward fans with a carefully-compiled and remastered retrospective of their B-sides and unreleased tracks from their archive. While many artists back their hits with “throw-away” music, The Cure put as much love and imagination into the recording of these tracks, and so the resulting 4-disc boxed set gave fans a deep and satisfying look into songs that meant a lot to the artist – after all, they were backing the songs that made the band a huge international success!
As any true fan would hope for in a B-sides collection, EVERY B-side they had released was included and remastered, too. In addition , the set also included a 76-page hard cover book filled with color photos, articles and interviews with the players (with notes from Robert Smith about how the compilation was made and why each track was chosen).
After leaving Fiction, the band subsequently signed with Geffen Records in 2003 and released their first record (simply titled The Cure) on their new label in July of 2004.
