"I had made 6 covers for the Ramones prior to this and had been experimenting with a technique that I stole from Ira Cohen, a NY photographer who pioneered shooting Mylar reflections, giving viewers of his portraits of Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Spirit a feeling of being on LSD while looking at them.

It turned out that Ira was a friend of Joey's and Joey had promised Ira the next cover. It was a coincidence that I showed Johnny, CJ and Markie my imitation of Ira's work. Joey was really upset and was afraid making Ira angry. Johnny liked the concept of the melting image and wanted me to shoot the cover.

So I had to meet Ira and sort this situation out."
