Unframed and unmatted
Austin, TX and San Francisco-based poster artist/illustrator Frank Kozik has been one of the people at the center of the silkscreen rock poster explosion, with his artwork often combining elements of 60's psychedelia, punk-rock minimalism, and cartoon-based zaniness, making him a favorite of indie bands world-wide.
NYC-based heavy metal band Helmet had been enjoying a good deal of success due to their million-plus selling record on Interscope, "Meantime". A metal band that dismissed the long hair/black leather/tattoo trappings of their genre, they had replaced founding member Peter Mengede earlier in 1993 after a major spat and were touring and recording their next record ("Betty") with his replacement, Rob Echeverria (who, by the way, went on to play with Biohazard).
Former Pussy Galore leader Jon Spencer formed his post-punk art/noise Blues Explosion Band in 1991, which proved to be a popular showcase for his theremin-driven, bass-free music mix. |
