Unframed and unmatted

On July 6, 2000, Patti Smith performed at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, Michigan, as part of her "Gung Ho" promotional tour. Detroit is a second home to Ms. Smith, who lived there for a number of years with her husband, the late ex-MC5 guitarist Fred "Sonic" Smith. Moving there in the late 1970's, Patti laid low until she began work on her 1988 comeback record titled "Dream of Life".

Backed by her long-time collaborators Lenny Kaye (guitar) and Jay Dee Daughtery (drums), along with Tony Shanahan on bass and Oliver Ray (who, by the way, took the photograph that serves as the basis for this poster) on guitar, this was the same crew that backed her on her 1996 record "Gone Again" and on 2000's "Gung Ho".

Gung Ho also featured guest appearances by her son Jackson and REM's Michael Stipe.

Patti Smith was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
