This 22.5" x 35" color silkscreen print is from a limited-edition run of 2500 prints, printed on heavy poster stock and signed/numbered by the artist, Alton Kelley. Unframed and unmatted One of the founders of the San Francisco Bay-area psychedelic art scene (along with Stanley Mouse, Rick Griffin, Wes Wilson and Victor Moscoso), Alton Kelley's most well-known images for the Grateful Dead were done in collaboration with Mouse, with this image derived from a 19th century illustration by artist Edmund Sullivan.
This tour of 4 cities (Las Vegas, Portland, Seattle and back to Mountain View, CA) was the last one with founding member/guitarist extraordinaire Jerry Garcia who, while living on a strict course of diet and exercise to fight his diabetes and bad heart, was fighting a losing battle. Accounts of these shows tell of his lack of energy and diminished capabilities - everyone was quite sad to see this happening to one of their most-loved entertainers.
His final live appearance with the band took place later that summer in Chicago, and a month after that performance, he was dead.
Alton Kelley passed away in June, 2008, and the world lost a truely talented artist.
