20.5"w x 28"h (16"w x 24"h image size) Iris print on Somerset heavyweight archival water color paper, from a special edition of 50, signed & numbered by the artist, Winston Smith. It is also embossed with the artist's chop in the lower left-hand corner.

Originally titled "Idol (In God We Trust, Inc.), 1978 - 1981, Winston first came to infamy way of this hard hitting political shock piece - a "bowling trophy style" Jesus nailed to a cross of dollars that was used for the Dead Kennedys' 1981 album In God We Trust. Inc. The 8-song EP recording, which was subsequently banned in England and condemned by the American Religious Right, landed Smith and the Dead Kennedys a permanent spot in the punk culture "hall of shame". Jello Biafra's impersonation of an over-the-top tele-evangelist that starts of "Moral Majority" is sheer punk comic genius (if you like that sort of thing!)... |
