Inspired by Brian Duffy's photo used on the cover of Bowie's 1973 album titled Aladdin Sane (the follow-up to his successful Ziggy Stardust record). It was one of six Bowie entries in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" (coming in at #277). It included the hit (and concert staple) "The Jean Genie" and the soon-to-be Bowie classics "Panic In Detroit", "Drive-In Saturday" and "Time".
Alladin Sane was Bowie's re-defining of his Ziggy Stardust character (we all know that Ziggy retired in July of 1973), and the album seemed to reflect his observations as an alien visitor on an American tour - enthralled with the great bits and appalled at the excess.
