After the success of their 1965 debut album (Go Now!), the
reformulated band (Denny Laine departing, later for Paul M's WINGS)
teamed up with the London Festival Orchestra to create "something
completely different" - a rock album with orchestral accompaniment
about one full day in "anyman's" life.
It spawned two Mellotron-infused hits that still are staples on
AOR radio and webcasts - "Nights in White Satin" and the beautiful
"Tuesday Afternoon". It also included G. Edge's poem "Late Lament"
which, I think for many of us boomers, was the first long spoken-word
piece we ever memorized.
