In the middle of working as head of Def Jam Records and
collaborating with a wide range of other artists on their own recordings, Jay-Z
retired from his retirement to release this record on his Roc-a-fella Records label in November, 2006.
While the critics weren’t kind (fans responded positively though,
buying over 2 million copies of his CD), they did not dampen his energy, which
was also focused on his philanthropic efforts, including major donations to
help the improve the availability of clean drinking water around the world and,
along with Sean Combs, raising millions of dollars for Hurricance
Katrina-related relief programs.
