Off The Wall was released in August, 1979 (on Epic Records) and was the first record where Michael collaborated with his new friend, producer Quincy Jones. The two had met and had agreed to work together while working the previous year on The Wiz film project.

Working with a broad range of writers and performers - and writing some of the material himself - Off The Wall featured a broad range of musical styles and proved to be popular with a broad range of fans! It went on to be a huge seller, its popularity (and its Grammy Award that year) based on the release of four Top 10 hit singles - "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" (#1), "Rock With You" (#1), "She's Out of My Life" (#10) and "Off The Wall" (#10). The record went on to sell over seven million copies in the U.S. alone, and over 20 million copies world-wide.

In Rolling Stone Magazine's 2003 listing of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, Off The Wall came in at number 68. The cover photo by shot by photographer Steve Harvey, with design by the talented Mike Salisbury (who also was the AD for popular records by Rickie Lee Jones, James Taylor, Randy Newman and many others).
