This item was given to our gallery owner (while he was still working at Fuse TV) during a visit by the band to his studio in 2004.
Color lithographic print, on heavy stock, printed on both sides, in excellent condition. The art direction and design work is attributed to Greg G. Burke. There is a different color and background scheme on either side of this flat - one side features the artwork as it appears on the album cover (gold, black and red), while the other side has a black background with tattoo-style graphics including a snake, flames and a tiger.
Print size 12" x 12". Signed (on the album cover front side of the flat) with a black marker by Allison, Brett, Maya and what must be Torry - it's kinda squiggly) of The Donnas. See the small image below for a photo close-up of the signatures.
Sold unmatted & unframed
When The Donnas got together in January 2004 to start work on material for a new record, they knew some changes were in order. “Having spent nearly a decade as the Donnas, the band found themselves feeling trapped by the Ramones-style gimmick, and decided the time was right to ditch the cartoon monikers Donna A, Donna F, etc.
‘We’re real people,’ (singer Brett) Anderson says (is this why they chose to be represented in line drawings? – ed.). ‘We’re not characters. We started the Donnas in high school, but we’re not in high school anymore.’
More importantly, they wanted to shake things up by incorporating different influences and deeper emotional terrain into their trademark style.
Among the goals was to keep things clean and straightforward, in the style of such Seventies staples as the Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls, while still pushing the artistic envelope. As a result, such songs as the darkly evocative "Revolver" and the astonishing title track are more complex than anything ever heard before on a Donnas record, infused with intricate melodies, two-part harmonies, and danceable rhythms.
With "GOLD MEDAL," the Donnas pulled out all the stops, resulting in something truly remarkable and fresh, focused, and full-on collection that retains the band’s irrepressible spirit and humor, yet ups the ante on every possible level."
