The Doors released this, their third album, in Summer of 1968 and it became their first #1 album, spawned by the success of their second hit single (“Hello, I Love You”) and the general accessibility of the records more melodic songs.

Not that it was without its touches of unique songwriting, as evidenced by “Not to Touch the Earth” (a segment of their later-released “Celebration of the Lizard”), the startlingly anti-war “Unknown Soldier” and their marching-straight-to-Hell closing tune “Five to One”. When re-released as the “40th Anniversary” edition, “The Celebration of the Lizard” and two alternate takes of “Not to Touch the Earth” were also included.

Trivia tidbit - The song “Waiting for the Sun” was NOT included on this album, but was included in their 1970 record Morrison Hotel.
