Rhoads’ combination of metal chops and classical mastery earned him a special place in rock history.
Randall William Rhoads began taking guitar lessons at age 6 at his mother’s Musonia School of Music in
North Hollywood,
California. By the time he was 12, he had mastered all of the techniques his teacher could offer (with a focus on classical styles) and, at the age of 17, founded a band called Quiet Riot which became a staple in the LA rock club scene.
In 1979, a friend of Randy’s suggested to Ozzy Osbourne that he might want to audition Randy for a new band (Blizzard of Ozz) he was forming. After a brief audition, he was given the job and their soon-to-be-historic musical partnership ensued. Before Randy’s tragic death in a plane crash in 1982, two great records (Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman) were released and the related tours were critical smashes.
Randy’s speed, precision and professional approach to his music would break new ground in both recording and live performance. While he’s been gone for over 25 years, his music will never be silenced and he’ll remain one of our true Rock Iconz®.
