Shot at the Schaffer Music Festival in 1975 - "My assignment was to shoot Dave for a lead story in one of Jazz's biggest magazines. I was told to bring a very long lens, since they were not letting anyone on the stage.

 

Little did the publisher know that I was friends with the promoter and everyone in security for that venue. They introduced me to Dave Brubeck, who then gave me his OK to shoot wherever I pleased.

 

The next day, I handed this image to the publisher and watched the expression on his face when he pulled the print from the envelope..."

 

One of the few names in Jazz known by music fans of every genre, best-known for his off-tempo and difficult time-signature work, such as his take on his bandmate (and alto sax great) Paul Desmond's "Take Five" (done in 5/4 time), recorded in 1960 and considered one of the most-recognized Jazz recordings ever.
